This tool creates a distribution list of words found within specific HTML elements.

Walkthrough

Example: fetch HTML from http://taporware.mcmaster.ca/sampleDocs/plainText.txt;
  1. Source text:
    • Enter http://taporware.mcmaster.ca/sampleDocs/plainText.txt in the URL field
  2. Subtext limited to:
    • Select the Distribute over 10% option
  3. What to find:
    • Enter "joy" in the Word/pattern field

Summary

Determines the text source. Text can be obtained from a URL or by uploading a file.

Fields

Source URL
Text from the entered URL will be used as the data source for the analysis.

Local file
Use this field to upload a local file for analysis.

Treat XML/HTML as plain text
Enabling this option will strip tags from an HTML or XML document. <p> and <br /> in HTML documents and all tags in XML documents are converted to new lines (i.e. \n).

Defines which elements or attributes will be used to create the distribution graph.

Fields

Distribute over n% block of text
Defines the relative granularity of the distribution graph, i.e., when n=1 the tool will distribute over chunks of text equal to 1% of the total document size.

Defines the number of words per chunk used by the tool.

Enter a word or a string or phrase or a pattern to be searched for within the text. Separate multiple words with commas. Quotations are not needed in searching for phrases.
