List XML Elements and Attributes

Summary

This tool is used to display elements contained in an XML document. This tool also allows the user to count all instances of an element and to view the structure/hierarchy of the document. It also provides a variety of tools for listing attributes and attribute values.

Walkthrough

Example: fetch XML from http://www.xml.com/1999/03/ie5/first-x.xml; extract unique element names from the document.
  1. Source text
    1. Enter `http://www.xml.com/1999/03/ie5/first-x.xml' in the URL field.
  2. List options
    1. Select the `list unique element names' option.

Determines what to include in the list of elements in the results

Fields

List Unique Element Names
Returns all the unique element names found in the document.

Display Element Tree Structure
Displays the element tree structure (hierarchy) of the document.

List Attributes: Lists all of the attributes found in the document and the elements they are attributed to.

List Attribute Values
Select this box to view all attributes of each element.

List Elements Containing Attributes
Lists all of the elements in groups of 'with attributes' and 'without attributes'

Count Elements
Select this box to view the number of times each element appears.

Display with attributes
Include tag attributes in the results.

Determines the format in which results will be delivered

Open results in new window
Checking this box will display the results in a new window. This option is selected by default. In some cases pop-up blockers may disallow windows from being created, in which case this option may be de-selected.
